CHRISTIAN EDUCATION COORDINATOR
Position:
OPC St. Andrew’s is seeking a part-time Coordinator of Children, Youth and Family Ministries. We are looking for an energetic, engaging person to provide vision, generate new ideas, and the coordination of ministry to children and young people up to 25 years of age, including their families. The successful applicant will support and encourage the growth of children, young people, and families in their faith.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Ø Lead weekly Sunday school classes during worship service.
Ø Implement bi-monthly youth group.
Ø Implement programmes for school holidays, especially summertime. (Vacation Bible school/camp, Easter egg hunt, etc.)
Ø Ability to work independently and interdependently. Able to organize people and events.
Ø Understand young people and family dynamics.
Ø Able to maintain and handle confidences and confidential matters.
Ø Choosing and preparing age-appropriate Bible-based curriculum.
Ø Oversee volunteers in accordance with the Leading with Care Policy of the Presbyterian Church in Canada.
Ø Design, organize, implement, and attend events.
Ø Establish a safe, welcoming, inclusive environment. Be aware of emotional and mental health issues among young people.
Ø Provide targeted, consistent, effective communication and promotion of activities through social media and telephone.
Ø Network and build relationships with the Lead minister, other leaders, and Christian leaders in the community.
Ø Be a present and engaged participant in church programmes, worship services and other duties as assigned.
Ø Create, promote, and manage a calendar of events.
Ø Attend staff and Christian Education meetings as requested.
Requirements:
Ø Possess a valid driver’s licence and be insurable.
Ø Pass a Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check.
Ø Must comply with the Leading with Care Policy of the Presbyterian Church in Canada
Ø Standard First Aid or be willing to be trained.
Ø Excellent written and verbal skills.
Ø Be in a growing relationship with Christ.
Preferred Education:
Ø Post secondary religion/theology education or training, or equivalent experience.
Ø Experience working with young people an asset.
Accountability:
Ø This position will be responsible to the Lead Minister and Christian Education Committee, along with regular reporting to the Session.
Ø This part-time position consists of daytime, evening, and weekend work. Flexibility in office hours will vary according to planned programmes and activities.
To Apply:
This is a one-year, part-time contract position (of two years) consisting of approximately 20 hours per week. This contract to be renewed annually. The hourly rate of $22.50 for an annual income of $23,400.00.
